Cause marketing

Cause marketing, or cause-related marketing (CRM), is pairing a for-profit company with a Non-profit organization for their mutual benefit. A marketing relationship is developed where the company’s product or service is promoted while simultaneously raising money for the non-profit. The concept is also known as “consumption philanthropy.”

Cause marketing is a win-win situation. It can generate a lot of money for the recipient charity and lend legitimacy to the organization by its association with a well known corporate entity. It also has a positive effect on corporate sales and image.

An example would be Yoplait’s participation in the “Save Lids to Save Lives” campaign: Yoplait donates ten cents per pink foil lid that is mailed to the company, to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Cause marketing is a growing phenomenon. Especially online! It provides new opportunities and innovative ways to raise awareness of your cause and money for your organization.
